Installing your own ceiling fan doesn’t have to be a difficult task. With the right planning, this do-it-yourself project can be easy and affordable. No specialty tools are required. There are devices on the market with many features, including speed adjustments and reverse rotating. Ceiling fans are very useful for recycling the air in a room and adjusting the light intensity.
Important: Before you begin, shut off power from the electrical box. If electrical work is required, you may want to consult a qualified electrician.
1. Making the Right Choice
Your ceiling fanchoice should be based on the purpose of each room in the house. Here’s a guide to help you make the right choice:
2. Inspect the Installation Site
Before installing the ceiling fan, make sure that the release of the blades will be at least 2.1 m (7 feet) between the blades and the floor, and at least one foot between the blades and the ceiling. Some ceiling fans, however, require a clearance of 0.4 to 0.6 m (18 to 24 inches.). If the location is not strong enough, install an adjustable stand between two spacers.
3. Install the Mounting Plate
Tightly screw the mounting plate to the joist, brace or bracket. Attach the electrical box to the mounting plate with bolts and nuts.
4. Use a J-Hook
If your fan has a j-hook, screw it securely through the electrical box. Be careful not to damage the electric wire.
5. Place the Mounting Bracket
Install rubber gaskets and mounting bracket to the electrical box fan.
6. Connect the Wire
7. Set the Bell Cap
It’s time to set the bell of the ceiling fan to the casing of the device.
8. Assemble the Blades
Assemble the fan blade taking care to balance them. Since the models are different from one manufacturer to another, see the assembly instructions of your device.
Ceiling fans enhance the attractiveness and increase the comfort of a room. They help keep rooms cool during hot days and to help to circulate warm air on cold winter evenings. Whichever model is chosen, it will be a natural complement to your decor and comfort.
